An Approach to 'Blending' a Course (Athlone, December 2019)
This professional development day will allow participants to explore how they might approach the ‘blending’ of a course where the learners will experience a mix of face-to-face and remote online modes of delivery. The facilitator will present a case study to the group and will allow plenty of time for discussion.
As the day will include a practical element, and while the venue will provide some access to PCs, it is recommended that participants bring a laptop. In addition, participants are requested to bring provider programme modules (for a programme where a blended mode is being considered) and sample programme content e.g. PowerPoints presentations, etc. in soft copy.
The day will include:
CDETB Case Study addressing the following:
- Centre/college requirements including staffing, communication channels and other centre/college needs
- Delivery of a course including models of blended learning; digital technology/tools; review of programme content; selecting online versus face-to-face mode/s
- Creating the virtual environment through Moodle (Demonstration)
- Monitoring learner progress
- Assessment of learners
- Feedback to learners
- Evaluation and review of programme (sample questionnaires/focus group questions)
Practical Workshop
- Introducing digital technology/tools
- Use of digital technology/tools to create content
This professional development day will support goal 2 of the Further Education and Training Professional Development Strategy 2017-2019 in the following strategic priority area: Technology enhanced learning (TEL)
The target audience for this workshop is FET programme co-ordination and delivery staff
